SNRP
The vision of SNRP is to be a leading body in the field neonatal resuscitation in the region and internationally under the umbrella of Saudi neonatal society
Introduction
Neonatal resuscitation program (NRP)is an educational program designed to teach life support skills to all health care providers that are present at the birth of the newborn infant. in the mid 1970s till 1987 the NRP was developed by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and the American heart association (AHA), this program is being updated on regular basis and it has been recently updated (2010) to incorporate the latest information on how to manage newborns with respiratory and cardiac depression. nrp training programs for instructors and providers have been launched in saudi arabia, under the care of training centre in several hospitals independently without supervision and assessment of the quality of such courses . the Saudi Council for Health Specialties (SCFHS) approved the Saudi neonatology society (SNS) to fully authorize licensing and organizing neonatal resuscitation program in Saudi Arabia SNRP) (number 100006825 dated 3/12/1431 h).
Mission
Vision
The vision of SNRP is to be a leading body in the field neonatal resuscitation in the region and internationally under the umbrella of Saudi neonatal society
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The main goals and objectives of the SNRP are to improve and maintain neonatal resuscitation practice based on the best available evidence based practice through the following:
- To accredit, supervise and monitor all NRP centers (governmental and private) across the country
- To develop a comprehensive accrediting process through which NRP centers will be recognized as NRP Training Centre
- To standardize the NRP guidelines and actual clinical practice
- 4. To perform periodic evaluation for certification and re-certification of the NTC across the kingdom according to the most up-to-date international recommendations
- To ensure the NRP courses are performed according to the latest international recommendations and guidelines
- To organize lectures, conferences, training courses, and workshops for advance neonatal resuscitation across the country
- To establish, across the country, database for the NRP centers and NRP status of the healthcare workers

Saudi Neonatal Resuscitation Program Plan
1. Policy and advocacy
- a- Supportive policies and guidelines need to be in place to move program to scale-up.
- b- Revise national guidance on accreditation of Neonatal resuscitation program training centre needs to be actively disseminated at all levels.
2. Training
The plan for training include:
- Identify the other SNRP potential training centre, accredit them after completion of the application forms .
- objective measurement of neonatal resuscitation skills among those already providing neonatal care may indicate the need for further training to strengthen capacity.
- long-term goals and timelines for numbers, type, and location of trainees ,training package(s) needed , and equipment’s Training sites and personnel
- Standards for successful course completion, refresher training, assessment of skill retention, supervision
- process for inclusion of training plan in national, regional, gulf region plans and budgets.
3. Clinical services
- The strategic plan should address any gaps affecting continuous availability of services ie provision of resuscitation equipment to priority sites
4. Monitoring and evaluation of process and outcomes
- The implementation plan will include periodic checks to determine if activities are on track to achieve objectives and to make corrections if they are not
- Components to include in the monitoring and evaluation plan
- Regulations, service guidelines, and compliance:
- Training of health care providers: In addition to monitoring process indicators, such as numbers and proportion of providers trained, planners need to specify and measure criteria for successful completion of training, supervise the training process,
- Geographic coverage: Monitoring which facilities are equipped and have staff trained in neonatal resuscitation helps ensure that this intervention is not limited to certain geographic areas.
- Consistent availability of quality services: Monitoring systems for ensuring continuity of equipment supply, trained staff at delivery sites, and staff skills retention over time help ensure service availability and support ongoing improvement efforts.
5. Clinical outcomes:
- To determine the effect of the program on newborn, survival , and select outcome indicators (such as proportion of births attended by a trained provider and number of neonatal asphyxia births/deaths resuscitated by trained service providers).
